Dana Arazi, MA CI/CT NIC



ABOUT ME

Dana Arazi is a nationally certified interpreter for American Sign Language, with 13 years of interpreting experience. He holds a CI/CT as well as the new NIC certifications offered by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. He currently holds five college degrees culminating in a Masters degree in linguistics from Gallaudet University. Dana currently divides his time between Los Angeles, California and Washington, DC. 

Dana has spent his career pursuing mastery in a variety of interpreting venues. Dana has attended trainings specific to legal and mental health interpreting. He has successfully worked with mentors in both of these setting to fine-tune his skills. Dana is currently a nationally certified emergency medical technician (EMT). He has interpreted medical settings from simple annual physicals to evaluating linguistic competency during open intra-cranial surgery. Dana has worked extensively in professional venues including simple office meetings, large conferences (both deaf centric and hearing centric), and the current and previous President of the United States. Dana has also worked in a variety of educational settings including undergraduate level courses, Master in psychology courses, Doctoral linguistic courses, and specialized courses for government agencies. Dana has designed and taught linguistics of ASL courses for California State University, Fresno. 

Dana holds the following college degrees:

  • AA Firefighting; San Diego Community College District 
  • BA Communication Sciences and Disorders; California State University, Fresno 
  • BA General Linguistics; California State University, Fresno 
  • MA Linguistics; Gallaudet University 

While pursuing his Masters degree in Linguistics at Gallaudet University Dana completed original research in the field of neurolinguistics. The Gallaudet University Press published his research, in the form of a thesis paper. Dana is currently completing preliminary studies to pursue a doctorate degree in Linguistics. He is simultaneously learning Russian and French through various means including frequent excursions to these respective countries. 

While Dana enjoys working in many different settings, he specializes in travel interpreting. This includes settings from interpreting conferences to kayaking backwards down white water rapids. Dana has traveled around the world providing interpreting services. 

Dana spends approximately two (2) months out of the year giving back to the community. This includes projects such as traveling to Russia to teach team building workshops to bicycling across the country to raise money for deaf programs.
